PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
